1. The Crusades are one of those historical event that are as much a part of our cultural consciousness as The Godfather or The Simpsons. But as a result the cultural legend of the Crusades is a very inadequate representation of the actualy history.

Well like most of the awesome quotes of history, this was is apocryphal.  Seems like historical figures are just like you and me: they only think of the best comebacks after the fact!
