I was very encourage by
this 9 Marks interview with John Piper.

He talks about choosing to buy a house in a poorer neighbourhood:

“We’re not here to make money; we’re here to make a name for Jesus,” he says.

He goes on to describe the constructive benefit it has been to him and
his family to have to cope with thinking about vandalism, violence and
needy people knocking on their door:

“We rarely just give handouts, we find them some jobs to do around the
house to pay them for, to give them dignity.” (loose paraphrase).

Mighty.
