The final Christian Reflections Pop-Up Blog Tour event for 2014 will be taking place in Sydney next week.

It's been a great fun experience, running a stripped back Christian conference event – with all the buzz and intimacy of a lounge room, all the messy theological wrestling of a ministry staff meeting, all the diversty of an inter-church event and all the deliciousness of a pop-up taco van.

I've loved the excuse to go to Perth for the first time ever, and the opportunity to spend time with old ministry friends and meet new like-minded Christians.

Each of the events has had a rich mix of churches, ages, genders. And it's been a mix of pastors, apprentices, uni students, workers, new converts and old sea dogs.

I think part of what people have appreciated is diving in deep with the various topics. Whereas church staff get to talk on this deep level a lot, committed members of our churches are often always going over the basics, so they miss out on going to events where they can weigh in on ministry-talk in a more complex way.

I was very appreciative of Rory Shiner's comments on the Perth event:

I've been meaning to write a blog post called: “Why the Perth Blog Tour night was the best ministry encouragement night I've been to in a very long time.” I think a few things (venue, vibe, material) were in it's favour, but in particular the seamless moving from pragmatics to principles to theology to culture etc. I think we have too many “I've been ask to talk about (e.g.) time management so I am going to spend most of the time giving a generic biblical theology and then run out of time to say anything about the advertised topic). It was a model of moving between stuff seamlessly and engagingly.

That's what I was aiming for!

SO, if you are in Sydney and can make it along next Monday, 10th November – I'd love to see you there. Or if you can help spread the word by telling someone else in Sydney that they should go along – there's still time!
